About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Owner to take day-to-day ownership of our backlog and act as the primary point of contact between product intent and engineering execution. You will work directly with our engineering team on refinement, story writing and sprint readiness, resolving many delivery questions yourself rather than escalating them.

This role requires someone comfortable enough with system architecture and service boundaries to hold a credible technical conversation with engineers, understand the trade-offs they are weighing, and know when a question genuinely needs to go to engineering leadership. You will not own architectural decisions, but you will need to recognise architectural ambiguity when you see it and route it properly rather than resolving it speculatively.

Alongside backlog ownership, you will support the delivery translation for our SaaS clients once contracts are signed, working with engineering and business stakeholders to turn agreed scope into a realistic delivery plan and a well-formed set of stories. This is not a sales role. Pricing, contract terms and pre-signature engagement sit elsewhere.

You will also construct and present product submissions to our internal governance forums, taking responsibility for the documentation that supports product change rather than simply contributing to it.

The ideal candidate combines genuine technical fluency, excellent written communication, and the confidence to operate autonomously in a small, fast-moving team.

Key responsibilities

Own day-to-day backlog management and refinement in Jira across live workstreams, working directly with engineering.

Write and refine user stories to a consistent quality bar, including clear acceptance criteria, assumptions, and open questions.

Storyboard epics into a coherent delivery sequence, judging when work should be split and when it is better delivered together, accounting for dependencies and technical complexity.

Act as the first point of contact for engineering questions about product intent and requirement detail.

Recognise architectural ambiguity and escalate it to engineering leadership rather than resolving it in isolation.

Support delivery planning for SaaS clients post contract signature, translating agreed scope into epics and stories.

Work with engineering and business stakeholders to keep client expectations and internal delivery status aligned through implementation.

Construct and present product submissions to internal governance forums, including scope agreements, change requests, and supporting papers.

Maintain accurate product documentation as products evolve, ensuring changes are recorded and approved before delivery.

Contribute to documentation and shared understanding across product and engineering.

Required skills and experience

Proven experience as a product owner or technical product manager, ideally within financial services or a regulated fintech environment.

Comfortable reading and reasoning about system architecture, APIs and service boundaries well enough to hold credible engineering conversations, without needing to design solutions.

Strong written communication, with a track record of producing clear, concise requirements and acceptance criteria.

Able to break complex, interdependent work into a deliverable sequence, balancing story size against the practical realities of delivery.

Hands-on experience running a backlog in Jira or an equivalent tool.

Confident working directly with client stakeholders on a delivery scope, translating their requirements into deliverable work.

Comfortable preparing and presenting written submissions to governance or approval forums.

Able to operate with a high degree of autonomy in a small team, and comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with an early-stage business.

Nice to have

Experience in regulated lending, including consumer credit and CCA-regulated products.

Experience in wealth management, private banking, or investment products.

Familiarity with product governance in a regulated environment, including product approval and change control.

Competitive salary: (£75,000 – £85,000) depending on experience, plus equity participation.
