Job Title: Senior Java Developer (FIX Protocol)

£100,000 – £140,000 + Bonus + Benefits
We are seeking an experienced Java Developer with strong FIX Protocol expertise to join a high-performing technology team supporting electronic trading and connectivity platforms. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining low-latency, high-availability trading systems used by institutional clients and internal trading teams.
This is a hybrid position based in London, requiring 3 days per week in the office and 2 days working from home.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and support Java-based trading and connectivity applications.
Build and maintain FIX Protocol integrations with exchanges, brokers, and clients.
Enhance electronic trading infrastructure with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
Work closely with traders, quantitative teams, business analysts, and operations teams.
Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical strategy.
Implement automated testing and CI/CD best practices.
Ensure systems meet regulatory, security, and operational requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
Strong commercial Java development experience (Java 11/17+ preferred).
Proven experience working with FIX Protocol (FIX 4.x and/or FIX 5.x).
Experience with FIX engines such as QuickFIX/J or similar.
Solid understanding of electronic trading workflows and financial markets.
Experience building low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems.
Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, and performance tuning.
Experience with SQL databases and messaging technologies.
Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
Experience in Equities, FX, Fixed Income, or Derivatives trading systems.
Knowledge of market data protocols and exchange connectivity.
Experience with Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, or cloud technologies.
Understanding of microservices architecture.
Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
