Senior Snowflake Data Engineer — London Market Insurance

12 Months | Fully Remote (UK) | Up to £450/day

A London Market insurer is expanding its Snowflake capability and needs a senior data engineer to help build out the enterprise data platform. This isn't a greenfield-only build or a pure lift-and-shift; it's a mix of both, with real business consumption across Underwriting, Claims, Finance, Portfolio Management, and Delegated Authority.

The details:

Rate: Up to £450/day

IR35: Inside IR35 via an umbrella company

Length: 12 months initial

Location: fully remote, 5 days

Start: ASAP

Structure: 3-week sprints, daily stand-ups, reporting into the Data Engineer Lead

What you'll actually be doing:

Designing and building Snowflake pipelines and ELT processes. Modelling across Raw, Curated and Gold layers. Performance tuning and cost optimisation. Building automated data quality, reconciliation and monitoring. Ingesting policy, premium, claims, bordereaux, delegated authority and finance data via Azure Data Factory. Supporting the migration and reconciliation off the legacy on-prem warehouse. Semantic models feeding Power BI.

What you will need:

2+ years hands-on production Snowflake — Tasks and Streams, secure views, data sharing, RBAC, cost optimisation, metadata management

5+ years London Market insurance. This is non-negotiable. You need to understand UMRs, bordereaux, the difference between Lloyd's and company market operations, and how premium and claims data actually behaves

Strong SQL, Azure Data Factory, enterprise ETL/ELT

Dimensional and star schema modelling

DevOps/CI-CD for Snowflake deployments

Who this suits:

Someone who's done Snowflake engineering inside a syndicate or managing agency and can talk to an underwriter without a translator. If you've got the Snowflake but no London Market, this one isn't for you.
