The Opportunity

A leading Financial Services organisation is looking to hire a Python Developer to join its London-based Risk Technology team.

The team is responsible for building and enhancing the technology that underpins the organisation’s traded risk capabilities across a growing range of asset classes. This is an opportunity to join a highly technical engineering environment working on business-critical platforms at the heart of the firm’s trading and risk operations.

Although the team works closely with Front Office, Risk and trading stakeholders, this is fundamentally a software engineering position, with a strong emphasis on scalable architecture, clean code and production-grade Python development.

The Project

The Risk Technology function develops and maintains the platforms used to calculate, analyse and distribute traded risk across the organisation.

The platform is undergoing significant investment and expansion as the business increases its coverage across a broader range of asset classes, including newer areas such as digital assets.

As a result, there is a substantial pipeline of both greenfield development and platform enhancement, providing the opportunity to solve complex engineering challenges while helping shape the future architecture of a business-critical technology platform.

You will join a collaborative engineering team building performant and scalable Python applications capable of processing large datasets and supporting sophisticated risk workflows.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop and enhance high performance Python applications within the Risk Technology platform.

Build robust, maintainable and production-quality software rather than analytical scripts or prototypes.

Develop solutions capable of efficiently processing and analysing large-scale datasets.

Work with modern Python data-processing and distributed-computing frameworks.

Collaborate closely with Risk specialists, traders and technology teams to deliver new functionality.

Contribute to the continued evolution of the risk platform as coverage expands across multiple asset classes.

Participate in architecture discussions, technical design, code reviews and engineering best practice.

Help drive modern software engineering standards across scalability, performance, testing and maintainability.

There is a strong emphasis on clean software engineering practices, maintainable code and building scalable, production ready Python applications.

What We’re Looking For

Strong Python software engineer, rather than primarily a scripting or RAD developer.

Has experience designing and building production-grade applications using Python.

Has strong knowledge of Python data-processing libraries such as NumPy and Pandas.

Has experience working with large datasets and data-intensive applications

Understands good software engineering principles, including testing, maintainability, performance and scalability.

Enjoys solving complex technical problems within a collaborative engineering environment.

Experience within traded risk, market risk or Financial Services technology would be advantageous, but it is not a prerequisite.

The Team

You will join a close knit London engineering team comprising developers with a range of experience levels.

The environment is highly technical, collaborative and engineering-led, with a strong emphasis on writing excellent software and solving complex problems.

While the wider organisation continues to explore AI and emerging technologies, the focus of this position is firmly on building high-quality, scalable software for a sophisticated Risk Technology platform.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Python engineer looking to work on technically challenging, business-critical systems within a growing Financial Services technology function.
