Junior Data & AI Engineer | London - Hybrid | £40,000 – £50,000 + Bonus
We’re partnering with a technology-led consultancy that combines data, software, and AI to deliver research and analysis for leading organisations across sustainability, investment, and other complex areas.
Alongside their consultancy offering, the business has built its own data platform, combining structured company data with AI-assisted analysis. They’re now looking for a Junior Data & AI Engineer to join their small engineering team and contribute to the continued development of this platform.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent Computer Science graduate or someone with up to a year of experience who wants to build strong foundations across Python, data engineering, AI, and cloud technologies while working on a genuine product from day one.
The Role
As a Junior Data & AI Engineer, you’ll work closely with experienced engineers on well-scoped pieces of work across the company’s data and AI pipelines.
You’ll be given genuine responsibility from the outset, with senior technical support around you as you develop your skills and gradually take ownership of components of the platform.
This is a hands-on engineering role, focused on writing good code, understanding how it works, and ensuring the data and outputs being produced are accurate.
What You’ll Be Doing
Data & Software Engineering
Build and extend data ingestion and assessment pipelines using Python
Write and maintain tests, checks, and validation logic across data pipelines
Work with structured company and portfolio data in PostgreSQL
Write and optimise SQL queries
Run assessments across large datasets and investigate unexpected outputs
Build internal tools and scripts to improve engineering efficiency
Maintain clear and accurate technical documentation
AI & Engineering Practices
Use AI coding tools such as Claude Code as part of your development workflow
Review, understand, and validate AI-generated code before it reaches production
Explore practical applications of AI and LLM technologies within data workflows
Develop strong engineering habits around testing, validation, and code quality
Growth & Ownership
Work closely with senior engineers and learn from experienced technical colleagues
Take ownership of increasingly complex engineering tasks as your experience develops
Progress towards owning a small component of the platform
Contribute to internal technical discussions and help identify potential issues before they become problems
What We’re Looking For
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related quantitative subject
Strong programming fundamentals and genuine fluency in Python
Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
Familiarity with Git/version control and collaborative development practices
Thoughtful, hands-on experience using AI coding assistants
Strong attention to detail and a focus on correctness and validation
Clear written communication and a willingness to ask questions
Desirable Experience
Internship, placement, or substantial personal/open-source projects
Exposure to LLM APIs beyond standard chat interfaces
Cloud experience, ideally Microsoft Azure
An interest in sustainability, climate, or financial markets
Why Apply?
£40,000 – £50,000 salary + discretionary bonus
Hybrid working (1–2 days per week in London)
Join a small, experienced engineering team
Genuine product development from day one
Hands-on exposure to Python, data engineering, AI and cloud technologies
AI coding tools provided and actively encouraged
Opportunity to take ownership and responsibility quickly
Work on a platform used by institutional clients
Collaborative environment with strong opportunities for technical development
If you’re a recent Computer Science graduate or junior developer with strong Python fundamentals and a genuine interest in AI and data engineering, this could be a great opportunity to build your career in a hands-on engineering environment.
