Application Support Engineer (AVP) - Cash Equities

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer (AVP level) to join a high-performing Application Production Support (APS) team within a leading global investment bank in London.

You will play a critical role supporting a low-latency Cash Equities trading platform, working directly alongside front office traders, quants, and developers to ensure stability, performance, and continuous improvement of a mission-critical execution environment.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to high-frequency trading systems, global markets, and cutting-edge real-time technologies in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Provide hands-on Level 1/2/3 support for the Cash Equities Execution platform

Sit directly with High Touch and Low Touch trading desks, supporting real-time trading activity

Monitor system health, performance, and trading flows across global markets

Develop and enhance monitoring, alerting, and observability frameworks

Troubleshoot incidents, perform root cause analysis, and deliver timely resolution

Own and manage incident lifecycle, including detailed post-incident reporting

Collaborate closely with Front Office developers, quants, and BA teams

Support production releases and deployments, ensuring minimal disruption

Automate manual processes using scripting to improve efficiency and reliability

Maintain and improve operational documentation (runbooks, procedures, tools)

Participate in on-call and weekend rotations as part of a global support model

Required Skills & Experience

Strong experience supporting trading systems or low-latency platforms

Solid expertise in Unix/Linux environments and system-level troubleshooting

Proficient in at least one scripting/programming language (e.g. Python, Bash, Go)

Experience with monitoring & observability tools (e.g. Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana)

Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, latency, etc.)

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex, distributed systems under pressure

Experience working in production support / SRE / APS environments

Desirable Experience

Exposure to electronic trading, equities, or financial markets

Experience with log management tools (Splunk, OpenSearch)

Knowledge of messaging systems (Kafka, Tibco, Solace)

Familiarity with databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, KDB/q)

Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g. Corvil)

Infrastructure-as-Code exposure (e.g. Ansible)

Background in high-availability, high-throughput environments
